AUTHOR'S NOTES
This was my most difficult book to complete. I spent months researching and writing the story and an intense week at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC photographing the book. When I sent the photographs to my editor, I was certain that most of the work was complete. But after looking at the many interesting garage photographs, she suggested that I include them, change the book's angle, and rewrite the story. It was difficult for me because I had grown so attached to the original manuscript. After several months of research and many tough rewrites, I realized that my editor was right. A Day at the Races had become more visual, interesting, and exciting. My appreciation for the art of revision increased considerably.
